The Top Mounted Shooters perform in a special All Star Shootout
Clovis, NM was buzzing in October with the arrival of Mounted Shooters from all over the country. This year, Western Shooting Horse Magazine publisher Ken Amorosano added something special to Saturday Night's festivities; the first ever Mounted Shooting All-Stars event! The Cowboy Mounted Shooters Team Registry was proud to be a vendor and sponsor at the event.
Over 1,300 people gathered at the Clovis County Events Center and proved that, when done right, mounted shooting is a spectator sport. With 19 of the most recognized and accomplished mounted shooters in the world gathered for a 3 stage shootout, the night was sure to be a hit. With the voice and personality of Sugar Ray Quinn on the microphone the audience was in good hands. When the lights dimmed and the riders made their entrance in the spotlight, the crowd went wild. To add to the entertainment factor, "Wild Bill" (Gary Trichter) entertained the crowd on a horse drawn stagecoach that entered the arena between stages and to warm up the crowd. When the dust settled and the results were in, Kenda Lenseigne took home the top prize.
Everyone who was there will agree that one of the best parts of the event was what actually took place after the competition was over. Each of the all-stars went on horseback into the arena with picture cards to sign autographs for the audience. For about 45 minutes, shooters greeted audience members, had their pictures taken, signed autographs and got people excited about the sport. It was at this moment that the sport of mounted shooting was taken to a whole new level. The sport of Mounted Shooting now had superstars, approachable role models for young and old to look up to and strive to become. This is what the event was all about.
Of course, Palm Springs WestFest proved this concept at our first rodeo in 2010! For more information: Mounted Shooting All Star Event
